Happy Friday Gymmers!
So last Friday I wrote you an email about how my I threw out my back due to a momentary bad body position and loss of neurological control while I was exercising that morning.
I explained how in that moment I was frustrated, angry, and a bit disheartened because I’ve worked SO hard on using MS Gym and performance exercise to improve my mis-firing cerebellum, brain step, spinal cord, and BGB muscles.
I also wrote how I could’ve let my SETBACK (after months of feeling successful) take me out, cloud my mind, and throw me off track with my shaken emotional state.
As I wrote my email last week, I was in excruciating pain and exhausted from the emotional toll it was taking on me.
So this past week, my MOVEMENT MED FOCUS was training my brain to FEEL SAFE doing the EXACT EXERCISE that hurt me last Friday.
Every workout this past week has included some kind of squat, with a weight in front of me, with my head turning to the left as I lowered my body into sets of squats.
I tenaciously worked on clearing the movement maps and re-training the patterns in my brain that affects my inner ear, eyes, mid spine, and hips.
This morning I walked into the gym DETERMINED to CONQUER the exact workout that nearly had me taking pain killers, which will destroy my Celiac damaged gut (it was THAT BAD).
Before each set, I cleared my head, went through my BGB checklist, visualized my movement and how it should feel, and then GO!
RESULT: I OWNED EACH MOMENT OF THAT WORKOUT
I sit here today typing to you with ZERO back pain, hip pain, mid back pain, and my energy is SOARING -- Neuroplastic change can happen THAT FAST!
I CHOSE to let my setback MAKE ME BETTER.
I CHOSE to LEARN from the mistakes my brain made.
I CHOSE to ATTACK the same exercises that ruined last weekend for me.
I CHOSE to be an MS Gym WarriorThe FAILING FORWARD mindset of using my failures to improve is exactly what one of my MS GYM HEROES has done over his entire journey here.
His name is SCOTTY ROSENCRANCE.
When Scotty joined the MS Gym, he was in a wheelchair/wheelie walker, couldn’t stand long, struggled with bladder control, and had MAJOR cognitive disruptions that affected his relationships with his wife, children, and family members.
He was diagnosed at age 20 but noticed symptoms beginning at age 16.
MS had been a parasitic partner in his world for his ENTIRE adult life.In his words:
I started seeing Scotty post frequently in the MS Gym Facebook group and his words caught my attention.Every post (though he claims extra wordy) was filled with encouragement, hope, support, and guidance toward his MS Gym family, especially those who were struggling.
His words would just surround you with light and positivity as he spoke repeatedly of finally finding the TRUTH that MS could be counteracted.
The interesting part at first was that Scotty had not had ONE single victory, yet he continued to pursue and deliver support to those who were hurting, lost, and doubting that they could improve.
He claims that he was first inspired to BELIEVE and start MOVING by watching multiple Motivation Mondays. He claims that my words just felt right.
Then I started seeing him post about PHYSICAL victories he was having. His feet were moving, his legs felt less heavy, his body stopped hurting, and he felt his body WANTING to stand and walk more.
He was feeling more energy, less depressed, and less fearful to move throughout the day.
After a few weeks, I felt it in my gut that I needed to reach out to this champion so I gave him a call.
When we first spoke, I could sense that he was nervous about speaking to me as he repeatedly let me know that he had trouble speaking and lost words often.
However, after realizing that I CALLED HIM because he inspired me, I wanted to celebrate his successes, and that I was just a normal dude, our conversation flowed.
He beamed when he spoke about the MS Gym, the results he was getting, and how much joy he got from helping fellow Gymmers see, in his words, “the TRUTH.”
During our conversation, I was captivated by his words of positivity and hope because that’s how he and we roll in The MS Gym BUT… I saw an underlying struggle in his eyes.I remember asking him, “Scotty I love all your victory story bro and how much you love it here (the MS Gym) but tell me about your toughest days….”
He paused in a moment of decision that I could only guess was a moment of evaluating if I was a safe person to whom he could share his deepest pain.
And then he started to speak.
He walked me through the tortuous journey of how MS had stolen his self-confidence, dictated his life, formed who he had become.
He shared how MS had affected his marriage and restricted his role as an active dad to his two awesome kids.
What was so great about Scotty though, is that he constantly kept bringing the conversation back around to the ways in which the MS Gym and the members community have saved his life and helped him heal from his wounds.
Tears of pain and purpose rolled down my cheeks as I sat in the reality that this great man sharing his life with me was truly being set free through the time he spent in the MS Gym.
Since that phone call, SCOTTY HAS ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING:
He is no longer in his wheelchair, is walking unassisted, and walking his daughter to school:
His bladder and bowel function are vastly improved:
His depression has lifted, his destructive and defeating thoughts have been replaced by hope and happiness.
His marriage and relationship with his kiddos has improved and he is inspiring his children as they watch their COURAGEOUS dad FIGHT FOR THEM and WIN.
Scotty has found a PURPOSE here in the MS GYM and he continues to baffle the world’s top physicians by his progress:Best of all, I believe Scotty is PERSONALLY responsible for improving, enhancing, and inspiring healing in many many Gymmers.
His servant heart is a pure example of how healing THIS COMMUNITY can be for all of us.
All of our struggles, pain, defeat, victory, success, and transformation can help someone else RIGHT NOW.There is an MS Gym athlete in this community RIGHT NOW that needs YOU to take action so that YOU can start healing, so that YOU can post your victory story and INSPIRE THEM to take action because they are JUST LIKE YOU and need to know that FREEDOM IS POSSIBLE.
You may not feel like your words or are as powerful as Scotty’s (YET) but that’s just not true.
Every time you reach out during your struggles, every victory you share, and EVERY word of encouragement you deliver to your fellow Gymmers is a seed.
That ONE seed that seemed insignificant to you may just be that ONE seed that someone living in YOUR past pain needs to BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN HEAL TOO.
YOU NEED TO WIN SO YOU CAN HELP OTHERS.
YOU NEED TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT.
YOUR SUCCESS ALLOWS DOUBTFUL GYMMERS TO START BELIEVING THEY CAN GET THEIR LIFE BACK JUST LIKE SCOTTY AND YOU DID.
I need your story. You need your story. We all need your VICTORY.
If you are ready, so am I.
